    1. Introduction

Welcome to ReadFlow. We built our iOS app to help you master RSVP speed reading, train your brain, and track your progress as you climb from 300 to 900 words per minute. Because our app relies on tracking your reading speed, comprehension scores, and daily streaks, we need to process some of your personal information to make the experience work seamlessly.

We believe that privacy is a fundamental right, not just a legal requirement. This policy explains in plain language what information we collect, why we need it, and how we protect it. We want you to feel completely confident in how your data is handled while you focus on the Daily Brain Teaser and your reading goals.

If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, please reach out to us at support@readflow.app.

    2. What We Collect & Why

To provide you with a personalized speed-reading experience, we collect information in three main ways. We only collect what we actually need to make ReadFlow work for you.

    Information You Give Us Directly

When you create a ReadFlow account, we ask for a few basic details.
  1. Account Details: We collect your email address and a display name. We need this to create your account, secure your profile, and identify you on our daily leaderboard.
  2. Legal Basis: We process this data to fulfill our contract with you (providing the ReadFlow service).
  3. Information We Collect Automatically

As you practice your reading and complete comprehension quizzes, we automatically gather data about your progress and how you use the app.
  4. Reading Performance Data: We track your words-per-minute (WPM), comprehension scores, earned points, and daily streaks. This is the core of our service, allowing you to see your improvement over time.
  5. Product Interaction Events: We log which features you use, when you complete teasers, and when you view our paywall. This helps us understand what parts of the app are working well and what needs improvement.
  6. Device & Technical Data: We generate an anonymous user ID to securely link your device to your leaderboard entries.
  7. Legal Basis: We process performance data to fulfill our contract with you. We process interaction events based on our legitimate interest in improving our app.
  8. Information From Third Parties

We rely on trusted partners to handle specific parts of our infrastructure, and they share limited information back with us.
  9. Authentication Data: If you choose to use "Sign in with Apple" or "Google Sign-In," those services provide us with the necessary authentication tokens to log you in securely.
  10. Subscription Status: When you purchase a premium subscription or lifetime unlock, Apple StoreKit tells us whether your purchase was successful so we can unlock your premium features. We never receive your credit card or payment details.
  11. Legal Basis: We process this data to fulfill our contract with you.
  12. 3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for specific, clearly defined purposes. Every piece of data we process is tied to making ReadFlow better for you.

    Core Service Delivery

Our primary use of your data is simply to run the app. We use your account details and reading statistics to sync your progress to the cloud, maintain your streaks, and populate the daily leaderboard. This processing is strictly necessary to deliver the service you signed up for.

    Service Improvement and Personalization

We analyze product interaction events to understand how people use ReadFlow. If we notice that users are struggling with a specific Daily Brain Teaser or abandoning the app at a certain reading speed, we use those insights to tweak our algorithms and improve the user experience. This relies on our legitimate business interest in developing a better product.

    Communication

We use your email address to send you important account updates, security alerts, or responses to your support requests. Additionally, if you opt in, we use Apple Local Notifications to schedule one daily reminder on your device to help you maintain your streak.

    Security and Fraud Prevention

We monitor account creation and authentication patterns to protect ReadFlow from unauthorized access, spam, and fraudulent leaderboard manipulation. This protects both our business and your personal data. In rare cases, we may need to process your information to comply with valid legal obligations, such as responding to lawful requests from public authorities.

    4. When We Share Your Information

We are very protective of your data. We do not sell or share your personal information with data brokers, advertisers, or third-party marketers. We only share your information in the following limited circumstances:

    Essential Service Providers

We use specialized technology partners to run our app securely and efficiently. These providers only process your data based on our strict instructions:
  13. Google LLC: We use Firebase Authentication to manage secure logins, Cloud Firestore to sync your reading stats and leaderboard scores, and Firebase Analytics to understand app usage.
  14. Apple Inc.: We use Apple's StoreKit for processing all In-App Purchases and Apple's notification services for your daily reminders.
  15. If we are required to do so by law, court order, or valid legal process, we may disclose your information to law enforcement or regulatory authorities. We will always verify the legal validity of any such request before sharing data.

    Business Transitions

If ReadFlow is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

    5. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA/CPRA in California), you have specific rights regarding your personal data. We believe all our users deserve these rights, regardless of their location.

Your Rights and How to Exercise Them

  16. Right to Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  17. Right to Correction: If your display name or email is wrong, you can update it directly in the app settings.
  18. Right to Deletion: You can request that we delete your account and associated data at any time.
  19. Right to Data Portability: You can ask for your reading statistics and account data in a structured, commonly used format.
  20. Right to Withdraw Consent: Where we rely on your consent (like for daily push notifications), you can withdraw it at any time through your iOS device settings.
  21. To exercise any of these rights, simply email us at support@readflow.app. We will respond to your request within 30 days, free of charge.

    Complaints

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority. If you are a California resident, you may contact the California Privacy Protection Agency. However, we hope you will reach out to us first so we can resolve any concerns directly.

    6. Data Security

We take the security of your reading data and account information seriously. We have implemented technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access or loss.

    How We Protect You

  22. Encryption: All network traffic between the ReadFlow app and our servers uses secure TLS/HTTPS protocols. Furthermore, all data stored in our Firebase/Firestore databases is encrypted at rest by Google Cloud.
  23. Access Controls: We utilize strict Firestore security rules that ensure you can only access your own personal reading data.
  24. Payment Security: All financial transactions are handled entirely by Apple. No credit card data or payment information ever reaches ReadFlow's servers.
  25. The Honest Truth About Security

While we use industry-standard practices to protect your data, no system connected to the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security against highly sophisticated cyberattacks. You can help keep your account safe by using a strong password (if you use email/password login) and keeping your Apple or Google accounts secure.

In the event of a data breach that compromises your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities within the timeframes required by law.

    7. Data Retention

We only keep your data for as long as you need it to use ReadFlow.

  26. Active Account Data: Your account details, reading statistics, and comprehension scores are retained for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, this data is permanently deleted from our active servers.
  27. Anonymous Leaderboard Data: Leaderboard entries are keyed to a device-scoped anonymous ID rather than your personal identity.
  28. Local Device Data: Your local preferences, such as app settings and your streaks cache, are stored directly on your device using iOS UserDefaults. This data is automatically removed by your operating system when you delete the ReadFlow app from your device.
  29. 8. Tracking and Analytics

Because ReadFlow is a native iOS app, we do not use traditional web cookies. However, we do use mobile software development kits (SDKs) to provide core functionality and understand how the app is used.

We use Firebase Analytics to track product interaction events (like which brain teasers are most popular). This helps us fix bugs and improve the app. You can manage your tracking preferences directly through your iOS device settings by navigating to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.

    9. Children's Privacy

ReadFlow is designed as a brain-training and speed-reading tool for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 16. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@readflow.app, and we will take immediate steps to delete that information from our systems.

    10. International Transfers

ReadFlow operates globally, but our primary infrastructure is hosted in the United States via Google Cloud. When you use our app, your information is transferred to and processed in the US.

For users in the European Economic Area or the UK, we ensure your data remains protected to the standards required by the GDPR. We rely on legally recognized safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and adequacy decisions (like the EU-US Data Privacy Framework), to ensure that Google and our other service providers handle your data with the highest level of care.

    11. Changes to This Policy

As ReadFlow grows and we add new features to the app, we may need to update this Privacy Policy.

If we make significant changes to how we handle your personal data, we will notify you by sending an email to the address associated with your account or by displaying a prominent notice within the app before the changes take effect. The "Effective Date" at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. Your continued use of ReadFlow after those changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.

    12. Contact Us

We want to be completely transparent about how we handle your data. If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback about this Privacy Policy, or if you want to exercise your privacy rights, we are here to help.

    Email: support@readflow.app

We aim to respond to all privacy-related inquiries within a few business days.
