Add a Cookie Consent Banner to Squarespace

Squarespace's Cookies & Visitor Data banner is a start, but it can't gate third-party scripts by category or export consent records. Install a full banner with one script tag in Code Injection.

The Squarespace Install, Step by Step

    1

    Scan Your Site (Optional, Free)

Run the free cookie scanner on your site — no account needed. When you build your banner, the cookie categories are pre-selected from what the scan actually found.

    2

    Create Your Banner in PolicyForge

In the dashboard, open Consent Banner, pick your position, theme, and colors, enable Google Consent Mode v2 if you use Google tags, and save. You'll get a one-line embed snippet with your banner ID.

    3

Paste the Snippet in Code Injection

In Squarespace, go to Settings → Advanced → Code Injection and paste the snippet into the Footer field. Save — the banner is live site-wide immediately.

    4

    Align Squarespace's Settings and Verify

Under Settings → Cookies & Visitor Data, set Squarespace Analytics to require consent for EU visitors so its ss_* cookies also wait. Then open your site privately, confirm the banner appears, and check the consent log in PolicyForge.

Code Injection requires a Squarespace Business plan or higher — it's not available on Personal plans.

The Entire Install Is One Line

    <script src="https://policyforge.co/consent.min.js" data-policyforge-consent="YOUR-BANNER-ID"></script>

Paste it into Settings → Advanced → Code Injection → Footer.

Blocking Trackers Until Consent on Squarespace

Squarespace's own analytics cookies (ss_cvr, ss_cid and friends) are controlled by its Cookies & Visitor Data settings, not by script tags — enable consent-gating there for EU visitors. Third-party snippets you added via Code Injection can be gated directly with type="text/plain" and data-consent-category; Google tags are covered by enabling Consent Mode v2 in the banner.

The Banner Needs a Cookie Policy Behind It

GDPR expects the banner to link to a policy that discloses every cookie your Squarespace site sets. Generate one tailored to Squarespace — default cookies and common integrations included.
